ÌDÍJE ÀTẸ́LẸWỌ́ FÚN Ẹ̀BÙN LÍTÍRÉSỌ̀ YORÙBÁ TI ỌDÚN 2024

ÀTẸ́LẸWỌ́ jẹ́ ẹgbẹ́ tí a dá sílẹ̀ ni ọjọ́ kiní oṣù kẹfà, ọdún 2017 gẹ́gẹ́ bi ojútùú láti kọjú oríṣiríṣi àwọn ìpèníjà tó n d’ojukọ èdè àti àṣà Yorùbá. Yàtọ̀ sí pé ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ èèyan ni kò mọ̀’kọ mọ̀’kà ní èdè abínibí wọn, ó tún ṣe ni láàánú pé àwọn ìwé lítírésọ̀ Yorùbá tó jọjú kò wọ́pọ̀ mọ́n. Eléyìí sì ń ṣe àkóbá fún ipa wa láti dásí àwọn ọ̀rọ̀ tó ń lọ lágbáyé pẹ̀lú òye abínibí wa.

Gẹ́gẹ́ bí àjọ tó dé láti yí ǹkan padà, ÀTẸ́LẸWỌ́ wá láti ṣe àtúntò àti ìgbélárugẹ èdè àti àṣà Yorùbá pẹ̀lú àwọn àfojúsùn wọ̀nyìí:

Láti pèṣè ibi tí àwọn akẹ́kọ̀ọ́ àti ọ̀dọ́ leé máa kópa pẹ̀lú oríṣiríṣi ẹ̀yà àṣà àti ìṣe Yorùbá látàrí ìdíje, ẹ̀kọ́, ìfọ̀rọ̀jomítoro ọ̀rọ̀ ati ṣíṣe ìpàdé déédé.

Láti ṣe àgbékalẹ̀ ibi tí a ti má ṣe àkọsílẹ̀ àti ìpamọ́ òye àṣà Yorùbá ìgbà àtẹ̀yìnwá àti láti máá lo ìmọ̀ ẹ̀rọ ìgbàlódé fún ìdàgbàsókè àṣà wa.

Tí ta àwọn èyàn jí sí ìfẹ́ lítíreṣọ̀ Yorùbá latàrí ṣiṣe ètò ìwé kíkà, jíjẹ kí ìwé lítíreṣọ̀ Yorùbá wà nlẹ̀ fún tità àti ṣíṣe àtẹ̀jade àwọn oǹkọ̀wé titun ní èdè Yorùbá.

Ní ìbámu pẹ̀lú àwọn àfojúsùn wa, ÀTẸ́LẸWỌ́ fi àsìkò yìí kéde Ìdíje Ẹ̀bun Ọdọọdún Fún Lítírésọ̀ Yorùbá. Ìdíje yìí wà fún gbogbo àwọn òǹkọ̀wé èdè Yorùbá ti wọn ò tí tẹ iṣẹ́ (ewì, eré oníṣe àti àròsọ) wọn jáde rí. Ìdíje yìí wà ni ọdún kejì rẹ̀.

A gbé Ìdíje yìí kalẹ̀ láti le kojú oríṣiríṣi ìpèníjà tó ń kojú ìwé kíkọ ní èdè Yorùbá bíi rírí àwọn atẹ̀wéjáde to mú’ṣẹ́ wọn lọkúnkúndùn, ìwé títà oun níní àwọn olùkàwé to ní ìfarajìn àti bẹ́ẹ̀ bẹ́ẹ̀ lọ. Ìdíje yìí tún gbèrò láti dá ògo àṣà lítírésọ̀ Yorùbá padà, eléyìí tí ọ̀pọ̀ èèyan ti ṣe sàdáńkatà fún jákèjádò àgbáyé tẹ́lẹ̀rí.

Ìdíje yìí wà fún àwọn òǹkọ̀wé tí wọn kò bá tí ì tẹ ìwé náà jáde rí ní èdè Yorùbá. Eléyìí túmọ̀ sí pé gbogbo iṣẹ́ tí ẹ bá fi ránṣẹ kò gbọdọ̀ tíí wà ni títẹ̀jáde, yálà nínú ìwé ni o tàbí lóri ẹ̀rọ káyélujára.
Ìdíje yìí wà fún àwọn òǹkọ̀wé tí ọjọ́-orí wọn jẹ méjìdínlógún tàbí jù bẹ́ẹ̀ lọ.
Dandan ni kí àwọn ìwé ìfiranṣẹ náà wá pẹ̀lú àmì tó tọ́ lórí wọn. Fún ìraǹlọ́wọ́ ẹ wo ibí àti ibí.

ÀTẸ́LẸWỌ́ PRIZE FOR YORÙBÁ LITERATURE 2024

ÀTẸ́LẸWỌ́ Cultural Initiative was founded on the 1st of June, 2017 as a response to the many challenges and threats facing the preservation and survival of the Yorùbá culture and language. Apart from the fact that most people nowadays cannot even read in their indigenous African languages, there is also a greater concern as regards the waning presence of quality literature materials in these languages. And this has no doubt impeded our ability to sufficiently and originally contribute to global discussions and solutions.

As a course changing initiative, ÀTẸ́LẸWỌ́ is dedicated to the reviving and repositioning of the Yorùbá culture with the mission to:

Provide a platform for stoking interest and generating fulfilling engagements with the dynamics of the Yorùbá culture through competitions, lectures, dialogues and regular meetups.
Provide a platform for the documentation and preservation of Yorùbá ancient knowledge, culture and language in keeping pace with technological advancement.
Rekindle people’s interest in Yorùbá literature by organising readings, making Yorùbá literature available for purchase and publishing new voices in the Yorùbá Language.

In line with our goals and objectives, ÀTẸ́LẸWỌ́ has hereby announces the 3rd edition of annual “ÀTẸ́LẸWỌ́ PRIZE FOR YORÙBÁ LITERATURE.” The competition is open to previously unpublished works in Yorùbá language.

The ÀTẸ́LẸWỌ́ PRIZE FOR YORÙBÁ LITERATURE is instituted to address some of the problems–committed publishers, distribution, cultivating invested readerships, etc.–that creative writing in Yorùbá faces. The ÀTẸ́LẸWỌ́ PRIZE FOR YORÙBÁ LITERATURE intends to rejuvenate the more than the century old, vibrant, universally praised, and unquestionably rich Yorùbá literary culture.

Guidelines

Those interested in submitting for this prize must adhere to the following guidelines:

Each work submitted must be a. POETRY b. PROSE c. DRAMA or d. TRANSLATION
The prize is only open to writers who haven’t published the novel, play, or book length collection of poems written in Yorùbá as at the time of this prize. This means that submitted works must not have been previously published anywhere, whether in physical book format, social media platforms or any digital book platform.
Writers interested in submitting for the prize must be at least of 18 years of age.
All entries must be properly tone-marked with correct diacritics. See here and here for suggestions of tools and apps to help you.
One writer. One Work. One Entry.
Writers are required to send in their manuscripts–around 50 to 100 pages or more (1.0 spacing, font size 12)– in a Microsoft Word document format ONLY.
For Translation works, you can either translate Yorùbá books into English language, or you can translate other languages into Yorùbá language, but we encourage you to translate into Yorùbá language. All the works you will be translating MUST be in the public domain in line with the copyright laws of Nigeria and if they are not, you must get express permission from the author or publisher of said work. Evidence of this should be attached to your submission.
The first page of the submission should contain personal information about the author: Name, Full Address, and Phone Number (WhatsApp).
All submissions must be sent to atelewo.org@gmail.com with the subject in this format “MANUSCRIPT TITLE_WRITER’S NAME_POETRY/PROSE/DRAMA/TRANSLATION_ATELEWO PRIZE FOR YORUBA LITERATURE”.
Previous winners are not eligible to submit entries. By previous winners, we mean anyone whose name appears on the various shortlists below from 2021 till date.

ÀTẸ́LẸWỌ́ has the right to disqualify any submission that does not follow the stated rules above.

We will not consider any manuscript submitted after December 10, 2023.

Prize

We are going to unveil ONE overall winner. This winner will receive Two Fifty Thousand Naira (N250,000) and an opportunity to publish hard copies of their manuscript with us.
We are also going to be selecting one best work in the rest of the categories. And all three of them will receive cash prizes of a hundred thousand (N100,000) Naira each.
In line with our mission of promoting Yorùbá literature, we reserve the right to publish all or selected entries on www.yorubabookshop.com in line with our remuneration system for 2 years. Thereafter, authors can elect to continue to publish or discontinue publication.
We are going to unveil other prizes from our partners and supporters before the deadline.
